Analysis and Development of Electronic Software Programmes:
HandoPal®, a web-based intranet database designed to facilitate on-call patient handover and document every doctor-patient interaction, used to ensure continuity of care by supporting the flow of information from one shift to the next and generating a clear audit pathway. Moreover, the content of the medical data that this software has been designed to receive may offer opportunities for investigating some interesting topics concerning various interrelationships among these data. This program has been presented at the Associations of Surgeons in Training conference in Belfast 2007, the 13th International Symposium for Health Information Management Research, 2008, Auckland, New Zealand and published at the Health Informatics Journal.
TargetPal® is an electronic software created for colorectal cancer patients follow up and the other for colorectal cancer target referrals. It assists the colorectal department in reminding which investigations are due, creates automated referral letters and fascilitates audit.
TraumaPal® is the most recent software that I have created is being used by the Orthopaedic surgeons, Physiotherapists, Anaesthetists and Radiologists at UCH. It manages all new trauma admissions by creating separate lists of patients, theatre lists, automated imaging request forms and discharge letters. Presented at the British Trauma Society meeting in Nottingham, 2007 and the 13th International Symposium for Health Information Management Research, 2008, Auckland, New Zealand as well as published in the Journal "Injury".
I have also created a DIY laparoscopic training box that costs only £25, available for all surgical trainees www.DIYlaparoscopy.com.
Design and Development of websites informing patients with piles: www.PilesInfo.com. The only website in the www with patient information on the topic of Anal Intraeptithelial Neoplasia (AIN) is the www.AINinfo.co.uk which is under construction. www.sentinelnode.net is a website designed for both trainees and patients on the topic of sentinel node biopsy. It contains a textbook and videos for training purposes and was created in a combined effort of University College London and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. www.interactive-poster.com is another website that provides information and guidance in creating a DIY interactive poster presentation that includes a multimedia screen instead of printed images. The most recent website that I developed is the one for the European Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association (www.EHPBA.org). Among others, this website allows users to become members electonically, be updated on forcoming events and participate in forums.
