conducted through the UK Co-ordinating Committee for Cancer

Research (UKCCCR).

This excellent book reviews all aspects of sentinel lymph node

scintigraphy and biopsy. It covers in an admirable fashion practical

aspects such as how to choose a probe, which radiopharmaceutical

agent to use, how imaging should be performed and, particularly, the

surgical techniques involved if optimum results are to be achieved.

Undoubtedly, the histology and cytology of the excised sentinel

lymph node are of the utmost importance and require expert

interpretation. This aspect is covered in detail and the many pitfalls

highlighted. The authors have also provided the reader with the

benefits of their experience by including excellent illustrative case

reports to demonstrate the various practical aspects of the techni-

que.We congratulate the authors on an excellent review of this topic,

which could alter our management of patients with common solid

malignancies.
