The Hand & Wrist Surgery unit at University College Hospital is available for referral of all
Hand & Wrist Surgery conditions emergency & elective
The unit undertakes ALL hand & wrist surgery including:
TRAUMA
• Daily operating lists for hand & wrist trauma, dedicated trauma clinics
• State of the art techniques of ligament, tendon, nerve & vascular repair
• Complex hand and wrist fracture management including distal radius fractures
• Cutting edge percutaneous & arthroscopic assisted fracture fixation & joint reconstruction
• Post-traumatic reconstruction & deformity correction of the wrist & hand
• Vascularised bone grafting of scaphoid non-union
• Arthroscopic triangular fibrocartilage complex repair
• Carpal instability surgery for acute & chronic conditions
ELECTIVE
• Joint clinics with consultant rheumatologists
• Osteoarthritis & rheumatoid surgery of the wrist & hand- soft tissue & bony reconstruction
• Wrist & hand joint replacement surgery including modern pyrocarbon modular prostheses
• Wrist arthroscopy
• Dupuytren's contracture surgery
• Kienbock's disease surgery including lunate revascularisation
• One stop carpal tunnel syndrome clinic with immediate EMG & nerve conduction studies
• Management of upper limb sports injuries & overuse syndromes
• Tendon transfer surgery
• Paediatric upper limb conditions including congenital abnormalities & cerebral palsy
Patients are managed by a dedicated team of surgeons & hand therapists
Emergency referrals are assessed in A & E by the on-call Trauma SHO
